PUTRAJAYA, Sept 9. - Telecommunications companies need to improve their services first before raising the standard of service tax of six percent on the purchase of prepaid reloads.

Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic) said he was surprised when the government tries to reduce the burden by introducing Stores People People 1Malaysia Menu 1Malaysia, suddenly there appeared the announcement of charges 'shock' which will effect from 15 September.

"We have to think of the burden borne by the prepaid users who use it because it is the lower income groups, including school kids.

"I hope the first telecommunications company can raise the standard of their services because many of the complaints we received related to the phone line is always affected by interrupted when speaking.

"I am a minister who receives complaints from consumers, it is hoped they (telcos) is more sensitive to consumer problems," he told the Utusan Malaysia here today.

Yesterday, telecommunications companies announced a six percent service tax will be charged on the purchase of prepaid reloads, prepaid SIM card pack or with effect from 15 September.
